Month 18

After the one-year milestone of my rhinoplasty surgery, the next appointment I had with Dr. Shah was in April. It’s amazing how things can change in just three months! Around this time, my boyfriend commented that he could now see a subtle change in my nose and that the swelling at the tip has considerably gone down. Needless to say, this sounded like music to my ears. Because of my extensive research and experience from a previous nose job, I knew that the healing process would be slow. This is how I managed to stay patient instead of checking my nose in the mirror every day, hoping to see a big change. Still, it felt awesome to hear that my nose is finally close to the one I’ve always wanted.

Here’s a photo of me and my boyfriend at a wedding that we attended during that month. You’ll probably notice how much more refined my nose has become. You’ll also notice how I had a very wide smile on my face. That’s the smile of someone who has been afraid of cameras almost her entire life and now has the confidence to face the world!

Seriously, I still can’t believe that I can now have my picture taken and like how it turns out. Before, I had to make sure that I turn my face in just the right angle for pictures so I can conceal my nose. It was the only way for me to take a good photo. Now I can face the camera straight and still look great.

Before my appointment with Dr. Shah, I met up with a friend whom I haven’t seen in about a year. So we decided to catch up over lunch and she complimented me on how great I looked. Obviously, she doesn’t know about my rhinoplasty and I don’t think she even suspected that I had a nose job. It might sound crazy but Dr. Shah said that for most rhinoplasty patients, it is common for their friends and family not to notice that they had a nose job. Instead, they simply notice how great the person looks. So for those of you who are planning to get a nose job but are worried that people will notice, don’t worry! They’ll probably only see how much better you look.

As for the appointment itself, it was pretty much routine. As I mentioned in my January post, I’ve found an awesome parking spot on Walton street. This is a great relief since I don’t have to deal with heavy parking charges anymore. Before I saw Dr. Shah, one of his lovely assistants took my pictures as per usual. When Dr. Shah saw me, he said everything was looking fine. Like my boyfriend, he also noticed that a lot of the swelling on the tip of my nose has gone away.  We are both pretty positive that things will continue to look up from here. I have another appointment with Dr. Shah in June so stay tuned for that!
